Douglas L. Adams, Jr. has been practicing law in Kansas since 1993. He is also admitted to practice before the U.S. Court of Appeals, 10th Circuit. A graduate of Kansas University School of Law in 1993, Doug originally served as a State Public Defender from 1994 to 1996. Thereafter, in 1996, he joined Richard Ney at the time of this law firm’s formation. Doug is an active litigator who has spent his career dedicated to a relentless pursuit of liberty and fairness for individuals who have had the misfortune of being accused of crimes. Doug has a strong reputation for getting the best possible result in every case he handles.


Doug has an extensive history of achievement before all court levels throughout the State of Kansas and elsewhere. Representative samples of courtroom success include a recent acquittal for residential burglary and theft in Sedgwick County district court in February of 2010, a dismissal of city of Wichita charges for possession of marijuana and discharge of a firearm in April of 2010 upon demonstrating a lack of substantive evidence against the accused, and a dismissal of a Wichita federal charge involving an extremely large quantity of cocaine based on a sustained suppression motion presented over illegally seized evidence. Other dismissals and acquittals include a dismissed 1st degree murder case, a 1st degree murder reduced to aiding a felon, an acquittal at a jury trial on 1st degree murder, a rape charge reduced to a misdemeanor, acquittals for rape and aggravated indecent liberties with a child, multiple drug case acquittals and dismissals, and dismissals/acquittals on just about every other variety of state and local crime during his lengthy legal career.

His legal experience includes over one hundred trials in city, state and federal court. Doug has assisted in training law enforcement officers at speaking engagements and has given several presentations before local organizations and groups on various criminal law related topics.

Doug is married and is the father of a son and daughter. He keeps active when not practicing law, enjoying racquetball, weight-lifting, and reading.
